I have to admit that there are times when I try to deal with situations on my own without consulting God.

Nehemiah only had a split second when his job and maybe even his life was on the line, and he used it to ask God for help. You can be sure that it wasn't a long-winded prayer. He wasn't trying to show off either; the only one who heard him was God.
